What is the best procedure to prime a vertical Propylene Pump with a newly changed Mechanical Seal?

In case it is a vertically suspended pump, it should be submerged and not needing priming. In other case, can you explain arrangemnt of pump layout?

sounds like your concern is with starting up a new mechanical seal dry in a vertical pump? i can understand your concern if this is the case, and i expect the concern increases based on the length of the unsubmerged pump discharge column! time required to get flow to the seal after startup is probably not too long, but still, running any mech seal dry is not a good idea. hopefully the seal gland has a flush connection, or you have a tap near the seal that could be used to hook up a water line (if compatible with pumpage) to wet the seal until the pumpage gets up to it. depending on the quality of the pumpage, you may also be able to increase the life of the seal by flushing it with clean water on a continuous basis.

I am at home at this time but I'll try to get some instructions for doing this; what make of pump are you using @ what pressure? (2/13/10) If you have already resceived instructions let me know.
